Covenant Foundation for Prosperity
Many times people wish to receive prosperity in their life but turmoil lives there instead. There must be some things that are in their correct places if we are to receive the kind of prosperity that our Father’s plan is.
One of the first things that we need to realize that the meaning of a covenant really says the most important thing that we need to know. From the Greek that the New Testament was written in; to place jointly, that is, (figuratively) to consent (bargain, stipulate), to stand (transitively or intransitively), used in various applications (literally or figuratively):— abide, appoint, bring, continue, covenant, establish, hold up, lay, present, set (up), stanch, stand (by, forth, still, up): to assent, that is, covenant, acknowledge:—con- (pro-) fess, confession is made, give thanks, promise.
God our Father has made promises or in the words that the Bible uses made a Covenant with us for prosperity! So as we look at the meaning of Covenant we will have a start on how we are to reach the place that we are receiving His plan for prosperity in our lives. Even in the abundance of money that some of us have been blessed with it is a small amount as well as a small number of people in comparison to the plan of our Father.
To start with a covenant by definition take 2 or more to make one it says ‘to place jointly or to consent.’ Here’s what God wants from you He wants everything that you have. Stay with me don’t quit right there. God wants to know that you are committed to Him. When He has our commitment of everything then He can trust us: if He can trust us to us the wealth that He gives us to glorify Him (spread the Gospel) then He can get abundance of wealth to us because He knows that He can get an abundance through us.
What does it mean to give Him all we got? Sometimes because we remember the account from the Bible of the widows mite, we only think of money. This account in the Bible of the widows mite tends to cause us to draw back a little sometimes simple because we think well if you don’t have anything it’s easier to give everything that you have to God. We say oh not me the more that I have the more I’ll give. We have good intentions but do not remember many times that it actually is a covenant that we make with God.
About 25 years ago I was working a cowboy job that barely at that time was I able make ends meet. I was in a camp meeting at a church and knew they were about to take an offering. I said Lord if you’ll get a raise on my job then I’ll have enough money that I can start giving the way that I should. The evangelist was play the piano stopped I mean as soon as I said that to the Lord stopped playing, looked up and said this: ‘Somebody in here just asked the Lord for a raise on your job. He said to tell you that when you start giving the way that your supposed to He give that raise’; looked down and went back to playing. I immediately wrote a check for the tithe from that payday and on the next payday wrote the check for it. The following month I got twice as big a raise as I was asking for.
We must realize that if we want God to do His part for our prosperity then we must keep our part of the covenant that we made with Him when we accepted Jesus. See that is where the covenant with Him starts not when we deicide that we want God to prosper us but when we make a decision to follow Him as our Savior and Lord. In Luke 6:38 it says “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” That is a covenant that our Father has made with each one of you. That what you give will be measured back and running over. That means that God’s measuring cup is adjusted by what we give but even more that we give. I’ve known people that would give believing for a new job, better job and then when that new a better job come they cut back on their giving. Then they lost their job or their hours were cut back and they can’t figure out what happened or better yet can’t understand how God can let this happen to me. The fact is when they cut back they changed their part of the covenant and so God was obligated by His Word to also cut back. The reality is that at that point God even calls that person a thief. Malachi 3:8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings.” It all comes down to that Covenant, is it important to you? Is the fact that God is your Father as important to you as the fact that you are His child is to Him? Ephesians 1:23 “which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” You the church are not only His body but you are the fullness of Him. You are important to Him! He wants to get wealth through you so that His king will grow.
